The Distinguished Visual Artist of the Year


This award is bestowed upon a Black Man who utilizes his visual arts talent to promote social justice, civil rights, and community upliftment. He is focused on empowerment, encouragement, and engagement through creative means. The Visual Artist of the Year is more than just an artist, he is a creator of community conversations to promote healing and growth of the Black Community. This award is limited to Black Male photographers, sculptors, painters, muralists, and other visual artists living in and impacting the greater Rochester area.

 

The Distinguished Performance Artist of the Year


This award is bestowed upon a Black Man who utilizes his visual arts talent to promote social justice, civil rights, and community upliftment. He is focused on empowerment, encouragement, and engagement through creative means. The Visual Artist of the Year is more than just an artist, he is a creator of community conversations to promote healing and growth of the Black Community. This award is limited to Black Male writers, poets, spoken word artists, dancers, comedians, singers, and actors living in and impacting the greater Rochester area.

 

 

The Distinguished Sports Professional of the Year


This award is presented to an individual Black Male in recognition of his achievements on and off the field. He is recognized by not only his performance but also his character. The awardee embodies true sportsmanship; using his skills on and off the field to promote community, equality/equity; and is a source of inspiration and motivation for our youth. He displays resilience and courage in the face of adversity and humility and honor in any situation. His philanthropic endeavors promote education, health and wellness, and the positive development and upliftment of young Black males within the Rochester Community. This award is limited to Black Male athletes and coaches living in and impacting the greater Rochester area.

 

The Outstanding News/Media Programming of the Year


This award is presented to outstanding news organization, radio shows and online talk shows that promote Black male achievement and positive images of Black men and young boys in Rochester. This award honors news and media organizations who demonstrates, values and promotes diversity and inclusion. In addition, this award recognizes their significant contributions in the pursuit of social justice, civil rights, community involvement and philanthropy in the Rochester community.

 

The Distinguished News/Media Personality of the Year


This award is given to an individual Black Male in recognition of his remarkable talent as a news/media personality as well as his ability to use his talent to uplift Rochester’s Black Community. The winner of this award recognizes the necessity to pursue social justice and civil rights thus using his influence to be hands on in the community to promote and work towards equity and equality. His philanthropy is in alignment with the mission and vision of Black Men Achieve and he exhibits the ideal characteristics of a BMA awardee: encouraging, empowering, and community-oriented. This award is limited to Black Men in print, radio, and television living in and impacting the greater Rochester area.
