Board of Governors

The Board of Governors of the Rochester Black Men Achieve Awards objective is to recognize excellence and outstanding achievements in the African American community.

The Board is responsible for bestowing non-competitive special awards on deserving individuals and groups. They are the following awards: Special Lifetime Achievement Awards, Humanitarian Awards, and the Madiba Man of Courage Award. Additional honorary awards may be added at a later date.

The Board is comprised of at least 15 members from various sectors of society including law enforcement, business, education, government, entertainment, public service and non-profit sectors.

Additional Board responsibilities are the following:

  • To determine eligibility for nominations in all Roc BMA Award categories
  • To review the rules governing the Roc BMA Awards
  • In the event of a tie during the final voting round, cast the deciding votes**
  • To publicize special awards offered by Rochester Black Men Achieve
  • To actively seek and solicit nominations for special awards offered by Rochester Black Men Achieve
  • To evaluate the nominees for each special award and to select the winners in each category
  • To review suggestions for new awards and develop criteria and guidelines
