Chairman’s Message

Thank you for your interest in the Rochester Black Men Achieve Awards, a new and engaging endeavor to advance Black male achievement in our city.

The Rochester Black Men Achieve (Roc BMA) Awards program was created to recognize Rochester’s outstanding men and young men of color for their excellence, leadership, legacy, commitment, service and contributions to the Rochester community.

It is my hope that by honoring the accomplishments of Rochester’s African American men and young men, this unique platform will uplift, empower and encourage our brothers — cultivating leaders, motivating and inspiring our youth and igniting a spark inspiring true change in our city.

The inaugural Rochester Black Men Achieve Awards Black Tie Gala will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 6:00pm at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. At this event, we will bestow 5 extraordinary men of color in our community with special honors such as the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Humanitarian Award and more. I’m certain you’ll be impressed by each honoree.

In addition to these special honors we will recognize the contributions of 25 men of color in business, education, government, entertainment, public service, non-profit and community service and celebrate the impact they have made on the lives of people throughout Rochester and beyond. Nominations are open to the public but only men of color will be allowed to vote on the winners.

During the event we will also pay tribute to the many outstanding local leaders who have recently passed away, such as Bishop Gregory Parris, Joe Brown, Thomas Banister, Jr., former Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon and Tony Boler to name a few.

If you would like to nominate someone and/or an organization for one of our many awards, I encourage you to submit a nomination form for consideration. Please review the award criteria and determine whether the person and/or organization you wish to nominate would be an appropriate recipient of the award.

As Roc BMA President, I am sincerely committed to this dynamic venture to successfully impact our community. I am proud to lead a movement that is dedicated to empowering Black men and young boys and changing lives! The Roc BMA Awards is part of my heart and spirit and I hope that I you will make it part of yours as well.

Please stay tuned for more exciting news and announcements and tell your friends, family and colleagues to save the date for the inaugural Roc BMA Awards Gala. I promise you an unforgettable experience and evening!

See you at the show.
