The Bishop Gregory L. Parris Inspirational Leader of the Year


The Bishop Gregory L. Parris Inspirational Leader of the Year award is presented to a Black male pastor or church leader in Rochester who leads his own church with excellence and has a vision for his ministry that extends beyond his own congregation and into the streets of Rochester. This award honors a pastor who cares for and serves the community outside of the church walls and truly understands the role and importance of the church in the community. Nominees should be of good character, demonstrates excellence in their church and use their leadership abilities for the betterment of the community.

 

The Civil & Human Rights Activist of the Year


The Civil & Human Rights Activist of the Year award is presented to Black male activists, labor leaders and community leaders in Rochester who demonstrates an unyielding commitment to civil rights and workers’ rights. This award is presented to leaders in recognition of their dedication to advancing justice, peace and freedom for workers and community members in their daily work. This award recognizes leaders who have worked to make substantive yet unrecognized contribution to advancing social justice in the Rochester community. This award is in honor of their bravery, which is often unknown or goes unacknowledged, but through humility and activism, their work made positive changes in our community.

 

The Thomas Banister Community Leader of the Year


The Thomas Banister Community Leader of the Year is presented to a Black male community leader in Rochester who has made a positive difference in the community and demonstrates unwavering support, dedication and enthusiasm for the betterment and growth of the City of Rochester. This award recognizes community leaders who have not just chosen to give their time to improve their community but who have been able to motivate, inspire and support others to do likewise. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated service that has resulted in improvements and contributions to the quality of life in our communities. The award was developed to recognize the achievements of an individual leader living in the local community who demonstrates the attributes of servant leadership, especially in the area of community service.

 

The Distinguished Brother of the Year Award


The Distinguished Brother of the Year Award is presented to a Black Male who belongs to a fraternal order organization in Rochester who has made a positive difference in the community and demonstrates unwavering support, dedication and enthusiasm for the betterment and growth of the City of Rochester. This award recognizes fraternity men who have not just chosen to give their time to improve their community but who have been able to motivate, inspire and support others to do likewise. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated service that has resulted in improvements and contributions to the quality of life in our communities. The award was developed to recognize the achievements of fraternity men who not only embody the values of their fraternity but demonstrates the attributes of servant leadership, especially in the area of black male achievement.
