Nomination Process

To be considered for one of the award categories an entry must be received before the deadline Thursday, March 21, 2019. Entries are submitted online through the Nomination Forms for BMA of Rochester Awards consideration. The nomination process is outlined below:

Step One: Nomination Process

First, the nominator must submit the online nomination by the initial nomination deadline Thursday, March 21, 2019. Nominations may be submitted by any person familiar with the nominee and his/their work. If you’re eligible, you can submit yourself for consideration.

Incomplete nomination forms will not be considered. Nominators are asked to compile as much information about the nominee that best illustrates why he/they should be chosen for a particular award.

Entries that meet all eligibility requirements are then voted on by the BMA Award’s Selection Committee Members, and the results of that vote are the nominations.

Step Two: First Round of Voting – Finding Nominees

Round One of voting will be done by members of the five nominating committees: Champion Awards Category; Community Impact Awards Category; Public Service Awards Category; Community Professional Category; and Organizational Community Impact Category. Members of the Selection Committee are picked at random to be a part of one of the five nominating committees each year. Based on the criteria for each award the Top 3 candidates will be selected. All decisions will be based upon the rating scale created to ensure that all winners exemplify excellence in their respective categories.

All nominations will be reviewed at the end of the nomination period. Only registered Selection Committee Members will receive First Round voting packets and ballots. All voting is done independently and not in conjunction with other members.

After this round the Top 3 Nominees in all award categories will be announced at a press conference in March/April.

Step Three: Final Round Voting – Finding a Winner

Final voting will be done by all Selection Committee Members. Each member will vote on ONE nominee in ALL award categories. Based on the criteria for award the Top Candidate will be selected. All decisions will be based upon the rating scale created to ensure that all winners exemplify excellence in their respective categories. In the event of a tie, the Board of Governors will be convened to cast the deciding votes.

Awardees will NOT be notified of their win until the Second Annual Rochester Black Men Achieve Awards Black Tie Gala hosted on April 20, 2019.
